Today we are going to Nubra Valley and Diskit after crossing Khardung La pass. So without wasting any time, let's go and check out all these places. Our Leh chronicle was packed with adventures each and every day and today topped the list of all the memorable moments that we experienced. Not only because it was thrilling but also because of the surprises that lay ahead(awaited) !!! And so, we started our journey towards Khardungla. khardung la to nubra valley distance Actually you have to hire a private vehicle and a driver for the trip. So let's go and have fun!! The distance from Leh to Khardungla is mere 40kms that you should be able to cover in 1.5 hours. The route ensures a picturesque view of the entire Leh city Valley and as a bonus we witnessed the fresh snowfall which was happening simultaneously on the other side of the KhardungLa. Despite the weather forecasts about the inclement weather and warning of a heavy snowfall, we risked it all and continued our journey towards the Khardung La but enroute we realized the gravity of the situation and the danger that we had put ourselves in. We were soon covered by the heaps of snow. The entire road was paved with the snow which rendered it slippery and dangerous. I actually felt like complimenting the skills of the local drivers who conquer these terrains and drive down these roads just like any other normal day everyday!!! Well honestly, the snowfall was actually a blessing in disguise for the photographers because we could capture the beauty of it all along our entire journey to the pass. By the time we reached the pass, the snowfall had stopped and we could see a beautiful blanket of snow which had enveloped everything under and around it.

How to reach khardung la to Nubra Valley

We could not have gotten any luck to see Khardung La in this form that too for the first time. We were itching to set our foot on the pass which is famous for its height and which is a dream for every rider and travel junkie like me. I was a bit sad that I could not drive my car on those roads but when I drove, I could not have captured the mesmerizing views in my camera. The happiness and contentment of finally touching KhardungLa was out of bounds for us. We interacted with a few personnel present there and then we did the inevitable, we started playing in the snow. I mean, isn’t it obvious that the excitement of the freshly fallen snow at the famous tourist destination brings out the child inside of you! And all you can see is snow, all around. On the other side of the pass, there wasn’t much snowfall and mostly it was covered by a week old snow which had changed into different patterns and mostly icicles which are a rare view. As we were nearing Nubra valley the snow gradually receded and the road opened a view towards a dreamy valley which could have been a part of a fairytale!!! On the way to Diskit, we bumped into an ATV riding area made up of natural sand dunes. So what are we waiting for? Shall we go for a ride.

Experience at Nubra Valley

All the eagerness and excitement of reaching Nubra valley had eaten up our calories store and had stirred the hunger pans. After fulfilling the demands of our hungry bellies, we visited the iconic Buddha Maitriyi statue. This 106 feet tall statue stands next to Dikishit Monastery and the view of the Nubra Valley from this point is breathtakingly beautiful. What we saw next imprinted the image on our hearts forever. Scattered on the blue canvas of the sky pushing aside the dark and white curtains of clouds was the beaming sun on us. Adorned by 8 kgs of pure gold, this Buddha statue is one of its kind. It came into existence in 2010 by the contribution of the locals who started working on it in 2006. While travelling through Ladakh, you will come across many statues of Lord Buddha but the elegance, demeanor and grandeur remains unmatched. This is the tallest statue of Budha in Ladakh region. Apart from this statue Dikshit Monastery is another source of attraction for the tourists from all over the world which should definitely be on your list if and when you plan to visit Ladakh.

Nubra Valley to Diskit distance & Experience of camping

This Monastery, a part of Thiksey Monastery which is deemed to be one of the oldest Buddhist Monasteries. From Dikshit Monastery we moved towards another wonder, the cold desert of Nubra Valley known as Hundar. Situated on the river bed of Syok, this place is famous for its outstretched desert between this huge valley. Now since our childhood we have been taught that the ship of the desert is a Camel, so the next question was, where is the ship of this desert? And soon we found it!!! But unlike the single humped camels. These were the double humped camels, known as Bactrian camels. This amazing combination of the cold desert and the Bactrian camel, makes this place a unique tourist attraction. The majestic walk of these equally majestic animals on the sand dunes, reminded me of the Bollywood songs shot against such backgrounds. Honestly, I find these camels super cute. giggle After capturing these vivid views on our cameras and memory slates, we continued our journey towards the last but not in any sense least, next destination of our evening, Paramount Camp Resort. We have just entered our tents, and I would like to show you a glimpse. This place is awesome. I was blown away by the luxuries provided in our tent. Hello, my name is Hony Capt Chandrashekhar.
