Mysore palace is a historical palace and royal residence at mysore(karnataka) and it is an official residence of the whaddya dynasty and the centre of the kingdom of mysore. This place is surrounded by 12 major hindu temples. Mysore palace is a most famous tourist place of india generally mysore is known as ‘city of palaces’ including this palace. This is the most famous tourist palace of India with 6 million annual visitors. Mysore palace is the prime attraction for visitors and certainly it is a part of the bucket list of every visitor. Mysore palace is a visual structure with historical glimpse and past. Mysore palace also known as amba vilas palace.


History of mysore palace

Mysore palace was reconstructed many times over a period of the sixth century , initially the palace was made up of wood and it was struck in 1638. And it is demolished by kantirava naresh raja wodeyar. In 1793 AD, Tipu sultan took over the wodeyar kingdom and he reconstructed the palace. In 1799, Tipu Sultan died. Mysore palace came under krishnaraja wodeyar who rebuilt the palace with hindu architectural design.

                                                                                                    In 1897, Mysore palace was destroyed by fire during the wedding ceremony of Wodeyar's princess. Then again maharani kempananjammani devi decided to rebuild this palace. Then the palace was recommissioned to a british architect Henry irwin who completely constructed this palace in 1912 at a high cost in indian rupees.


Architecture of mysore palace

The mysore palace was built in indo-saracenic architectural mysore palace has 145 feet five storied tower which is made up of grey granite while pinkish marbles are used in its domes. Generally mysore palace is famous for the ancient wodeyar dynasty and their ancient paintings, jewelleries, complex walls and their royal costumes. Mysore palace has a miraculous structure with durbar halls, bays, windows and canopies. There are well furnished interior carved doors, glittering flooring tiles and glass ceilings.and the dimensions of the main complex of palace are 245 feet in length, 156 feet in width and 145 feet height of the dome of the palace from the ground.


Timing and entry fee

The timing of visiting mysore palace 10:00 am to 5:30 pm everyday except sunday and govt. Holidays. Sunday has different timing and ticket prices available for visitors.Mysore palace is open in all weathers. The entry fee to enter in the palace is 70rs.for adults and 30rs. For kids above 7 years and below 12 years. 


Best time to visit

The best time to visit Mysore palace during the dussehra celebrations and ceremonies. The duration of visiting in the palace is 45 minutes maximum and the timing to visit is between 7:00 pm to 7:45 pm. The best thing is there are no tickets to enter during this period and definitely you feel blessed to visit the palace during the dussehra ceremonies and sundays.

How to reach mysore palace

By railway :- by railway we can easily travel to this place because the railway station is just 2km. From the city centre. We will find many trains to visit mysore like tippu express,kaveri express and mysore express etc.


By road :- if you want to drive your own vehicle by road definitely this is a great experience for visitors because you can go from jayanagar,bangalore on the kanakpura road (NH 209).


By air :- if you want to travel by airways definitely this is the best way to visit your destination with a very comfortable experience. The nearest major airport from Mysore is Bangalore which is about 170km away. Then you have to travel by bus from Bangalore airport to mysore palace.
